We just got inspected by the fire department and they issued us a warning for having broken exit lights and no battery back up emergency lighting. We are looking for lights that are LED, have battery backups, lights and are wall mounted. Does such a light exist?
Sure! Surelight make a professional series LED EXIT LIGHT COMBO that is everything you need! They are wall mounted, have LED lamps, battery power and safety lights. They also have a ECONOMICAL LED EXIT LIGHTING SYSTEM for less money.
If you want to go the extra mile you can install FLUORESCENT BATTERY BACK UP POWER PACKS inside your existing fluorescent fixtures in areas with no daylight such as work rooms, closets, bathrooms and other areas where people might get caught in the dark.
And finally, if you have a warehouse and want to add some
We have malibu flood lights and would like to change the color from white to something more colorful, can you help or direct me to where I need to be ? Thanks in advance.
We do not currently sell Malibu lighting equipment or replacement Malibu plastic lenses. However, we do have a full range of commercial grade low voltage lighting products for you to choose from as well as a full selection of COLORED LENSES for LOW VOLTAGE LIGHTING FIXTURES.
Hi - I am installing outdoor lighting on top of 5 columns I've constructed within a retaining wall. The total run from power source to last light is 130 feet with a few curves and 90 degree turns in between the columns. From the power source to the first column, (30 feet) the land is low and prone to flooding in the winter & spring. Also, there is a tremendous slab of concrete buried less than a foot under grade in this low spot (original, incorrectly placed foundation for house)."CAN" I run UF #12 INSIDE sched. 40 conduit or will this cause it to overheat in the summer?? Also, From the first column forward, can I run the UF wire attached to the back of the retaining wall 18 inches down (wall is 12 inches thick)? Or should I use conduit all along the course? The wire will be sitting in drainage gravel behind the wall. Lastly, I want three lights on one dimmer switch, and two on a separate dimmer. Should I use three wire or run two separate courses of two wire? Thank you so much for your time!It is perfectly fine to install U/F CABLE inside PVC conduit. Officially, both PVC or U/F cable should be buried at least 18" to comply with NEC regulations ...
I have a Twilight 500 watt transformer. It has a setting that allows it to turn on at dusk (via photocell) and the turn off any where from 5 to 9 hours later. Well after the last hurrincane, it would not turn the lights off after the set amount of hours following sunset. I replaced the photocell and it just remains on now, no matter what setting the dile is turned, except for off. I have also pressed the reset button on the bottom of the unit. Is there a replacement control unit or is there a way to bypass it without having to manually turn it on and off? Thank you.
You can install a PHOTOCELL on the line side of the transformer or a TIME CLOCK. We also have some excellent pricing onTRANSFORMERS if you want to start over.
I want to uplight 3 very large oak trees in my back yard. 2 trees are 30 feet from the planned mounting location and 1 is around 90 feet away. Each tree is around 70 feet high. Can I illuminate them with low voltage floods or must I use 120 volt? Watts? Bulb type? Can I aim a 120 volt fixture into the sky? I also want to turn them on demand. Do any transformers have on/off switches?
You could light them with low voltage lighting but it will be more effective with mercury vapor line voltage fixtures. I would use two 175 WATT MERCURY VAPOR UP LIGHTS for each tree. You can either select the hub option to mount the light directly on the ballast box or remote the ballast for a cleaner look up to 100 feet away! It will look fantastic and the fixtures are designed to point upwards without a problem. We also have TIME CLOCKS and PHOTOCELLS to automate your lighting system. Contact us at 800-239-2939 for mor...
Hi, my family and I recently moved into a new house we built, and decided to install an in-ground pool before we did anything with the yard. So, now that the pool is complete, we have a landscape company working on the design of the yard.I would like to install lights throughout the property, and all the lighting companies in the area that I have contacted are so very overpriced. Therefore I thought I would attempt to do this project myself. I have found a product manufacturer that I think I prefer to buy the lights from, I would just like to know how I should go about designing a plan and how to decide where I need lights, how many and which type of light to use, etc. Can you be of any assistance? Thank you and regards.
We have many OUTDOOR LIGHTING KITS that will work around your pool and that are easy to install. I would start by illuminating any trees or large shrubs with some 20-watt halogen up lights. Then you can scatter some PATH LIGHTS around the pool decking to illuminate the paving and surrounding foliage. If you ha...
Could you please tell me how I would install the rope lighting to go with my crown molding on my tray ceiling that I am also installing or is there a different type of light that goes with crown moldings on my tray ceiling? Thanks
I would use the 120 VOLT ROPE LIGHTING for your tray ceiling. The bigger the space you provide behind the moulding the more attactive the lighting will be. I would allow at least three inches minimum for a smooth even distribution. You might also consider using PHANTOM STRIP LIGHTS if you are interested in have higher light levels.
I need a light fixture for my porch roof. I currently have a square box about 6" on side with two 60 watt bulbs inside a four sided glass enclosure. I would like a replacement that would turn on automatically when someone steps on the porch at night.
They don't really make a recessed motion light. However, you could install a OCCUPANCY SENSOR or a MOTION DETECTOR adjacent to the fixture and have it turn it on.
We installed door light switch with the florencent light. Problem.. the florencent light did not turn on fast enough. Is it because of the door jamb in low voltage?
Fluorescent lights are not considered a good choice for instant on applications using a DOOR JAMB SWITCH. They are really designed to be left on for extended periods of time. Turning them off and on over time weakens the electrodes and causes them to ultimately fail. You might consider switching to an incandescent fixture or upgrading your fixture to one with an electronic ballast.
I am putting lighting over art work in a restaurant on walls behind tables and want to be sure that the lighting doesn't interfear with the guests sitting down eating and seeing the bulbs as the lighting will be above their heads and at a close distance, approx 3 to 6 '. I will need about 15 fixtures for various size paintings. Do you have any suggestions. These will have to be shipped out of the US to Belize. Any problems with that? Thanks
We can ship the fixtures if you send a cashier's check or a wire transfer. I would install RECESSED OUTLETS behind each picture and put them all on a LUTRON DIMMER CONTROL for mood setting. The House of Troy TRADITIONAL or SLIMLINE fixtures are our most popular models.
I would like to light up underneath and outline my boat dock at the lake. Is there a light that can be used for such a thing
Yes, we have LOW VOLTAGE ROPE LIGHTS . You will also need a good quality FIBERGLASS LOW VOLTAGE TRANSFORMER and some LOW VOLTAGE WIRE to hook it up properly.
I have a large above-ground pool (40x24) with a huge deck. Is it ok to put low voltage lighting around the deck close to the pool and what would you recommend?
It is a good idea to maintain a distance of 6'' back from the pool with any lighting fixtures. Also, make sure all lighting is protected by aGFCI receptacle. As to what kind of lighting you use, it depends on the plant materials you have aroung the pool. If you have trees, I would go with some LOW VOLTAGE UP LIGHTS and maybe some 12 VOLT ROPE LIGHTING (PEARL WHITE) under the deck railing. You can also introduce STEP LIGHTS or PATH LIGHTS if you have steps or adjacent flower beds.
I am very interested in purchasing some quality outdoor Christmas sculptures for my home. I see that you have a great selection! Can you make some recommendations on which one is the "best bang for the buck"? Thanks! We do have a big selection of OUTDOOR LIGHTING CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS & LARGE SCULPTURES, MEDIUM SCUPLTURES & SMALL SCULPTURES as well as YARD ART for various holidays. I think you should go with items that are in your price range and that are Synonymous with Christmas such as SANTA CLAUS,
I am looking for some pre-lit Christmas trees for my church. We are on a limited budget. What do you recommend? All out PRELIT CHRISTMAS TREES are well made and competitively priced. Our 9' CHRISTMAS TREE is very popular and work well in pairs! We also have some LIGHTED ARTIFICAL WREATHS (3 or 4 to the pack) in 24' DIAMETER, 36" DIAMETER, and 48" DIAMETER and larger if you are interested. We also have TWINKLE LIGHTS
We have a small sports complex at our neighborhood play area that has a basketball court, a tennis court and a horseshoe pit. Currently, we do not have any lighting. Do you have any idea what some thing like this would cost for materials? One of our neighbors is an electrical contractor and he can handle the installation. Thanks!
For the BASKETBALL COURT LIGHTING you should install (4) 1000-watt metal halide cut-off fixtures mounted on 25' poles with 24" diameter concrete footings. We have other OUTDOOR SPORTS LIGHTING should you want to look at our selection that are priced for your convenience.
For the TENNIS COURT LIGHTING please take a look at our complete assortment of packages for both recreational tennis courts and tournament court lighting systems. We have other OUTDOOR SPORTS LIGHTING should you want to look at...
I own a medium sized strip center in a very dark area of town. Right now I only have a couple of halogen floods lighting the loading area. My tennants are complaining they need more light to feel safe at night. What do you have that is wall mounted and cost efficent to operate?
We have COMMERCIAL OUTDOOR LIGHTING that are wall mounted and will do a great job of lighting the loading dock. They come in 175-WATT WALL PACKS, 250-WATT WALL PACKS, and 400-WATT WALL PACK models.
If you decide to redo the OUTDOOR PARKING LOT LIGHTING we have a great selection of
Can you detail the best way to splice a low voltage outdoor lighting fixture onto main power cable? I want to eliminate my existing quick connectors with a more permenant solution (1/2 of them seem to fail every winter). I''ve seen the suggestion about silcon in the wire nut, but how do I do the rest? For instance, do I cut my main cable (12/2) & wrap the ends together with the leads for the light fixture into a wire nut? There must be a better technique. That seems like way too many cuts on the main cable. There are several ways you can splice into your main cable to eliminate the quick connectors. Of course, the easiest way is to simply cut the cable, strip back the wires, install a silicon filled wirenut (bathroom silicon sealer) and wrap the splice with electrical tape. If you have a crimping tool you can get crimping nuts or inline butt connectors. You can use 3M shrink wrap over the whichever splice to protect the connections. We also have HEAVY DUTY QUICK CONNECTORS should you decide to just replace those. It''s the corrosion where the connector penertrates the wire that is usually the problem. For your older system, you caould also ...
I have been doing some research on picture lights over the internet. I am looking for a small contemporaty picture light for my family portrait. What can you tell me about the House of Troy fixture?
The HOUSE OF TROY contemporary SLIMELINE PICTURE LIGHT is one of the best looking fixtures on the market. It is well made and has a very stylish mounting arm. The also make a beautiful TRADITIONAL PICTURE LIGHTING FIXTURE series in all sizes and several FINISHES including Brass, Chrome, Gold, Bronze, and Painted finishes.
If you don't have a RECESSED CLOCK OUTLET behind your art you should look at the BATTERY POWERED ART LIGHTS. They don't produce as much ...
I have a Malibu 600 W (300 X 2) tranformer for my 12 V landscaping lighting. One side of the transformer has 3X20 W lights over 140 ft, on a 12 gauge wire which is working well. The other side has two divisions after a 125 foot run with 2X50W on one limb over 50 ft. Second limb has 5X20W over 75 ft. The lights on both limbs are dim. Please suggest some options to address this. ThanksThis is a classic case of voltage drop! I don't recommend running more than 100' with 120-watts on a 12/2 cable for this vary reason. You can run another 12/3 or even better a 10/2 cable cable and split the lights into more home runs or connect the cables into a continous loop system. In other words, feed the lights from both ends. You just need to be careful not to cross the polarity of the wires and short circuit the system. This will boost the power and balance out the lighting levels. If that doesn't work, you can always use a HIGH OUTPUT TRANSFORMER to boost the voltage and solve the problem. You might take a look at our CALCULATING VOLTAGE DROP INFORMATION page f...
How do I know how much some of the lights in house cost to operate on a monthly and annual basis. Can you help?
Grab your electric bill and enter your kilowatt per hour rate into our ENERGY COST CALCULATOR to find out the cost. You might take a look at using our FLUORESCENT LIGHT BULBS to replace some of the incandescent lamps in your house.
I own a automotive paint and body shop that has terrible fluorescent lighting in the work area. What do you suggest to bright things up? My warehouse is roughly 20' high and I currently have twelve 8' double fluorescent strips.
Sounds like you are a good candidate for COMMERCIAL HID LIGHTING. For your application, I would go with a 400-WATT METAL HALIDE FIXTURE that has a metal enclosure and a lens since your shop is probably dusty. We have other LOW BAY FIXTURES as well. All of these fixtures have multi-tap ballasts which means they will work on 120, 208, 240 and 277 volt circuits. Please note that we have quantity discounts available!
I am interested in cutting my energy consumption to save money. Someone told me that going to fluoescent light bulbs would do just that. Is that true?
Yes, 26-WATT FLUORESCENT LIGHT BULBS produce more lumens per watt, therefore a lower wattage fluorescent lamp produces more light than a higher wattage 100-watt incandescent lamp. That's why you use less energy and save money. They also will last longer and require fewer replacements. They come in many shapes and sizes including an A-LAMP REPLACEMENT and a REFLECTOR FLOOD LAMP.
We are hosting a 4th of July party at our river house. In conjunction with the festivities, there is also a boat parade and fireworks display. I am looking for some patriotic decorations to dress up my dock. Do you have anything? As a matter of fact, we sure do. We have a MEDIUM ANTIMATED & LIGHTED AMERICAN FLAG, a LARGE AMERICAN FLAG and several LIGHTED PATRIOTIC STARS as well as CHASING ROPE LIGHTS that will work beautifully! You will have the best looking dock on the river! Let's hear it for the good old Red, White and Blue!
...I have been looking for lighted colored balls to hang in my trees at Christmas. Everything I seem to find is not what I am looking for or too expensive. Do you have any lighted spheres?
Yes, we have a wide selection of LIGHTED CHRISTMAS SPHERES in many sizes and colors. They come in 6" BALLS, 7.5" BALLS and 10" BALLS either individually or in quantity. We even have one package that has all THREE SIZES!
I had previously submitted a question about lighting the vaulted ceiling of a timber frame house. Based on your advice, I''ve decided to use the 120 volt rope lighting and I will lay it on top of some timbers that are up near the ceiling. The only place you may see the lighting is from the second floor catwalk. I''d prefer to use the smaller diameter rope lighting (so it is less visible) but was wondering about it''s light output compared to the 1/2" (larger diameter) rope lighting. Is there a big difference in light output between these two? I plan to put them on a dimmer switch. Thank you very much. There is no difference in wattage between the two sizes of light rope. Both sizes of ROPE LIGHTS produce 5.5 watts per linear foot. You may want to install two runs if you think you need more light. It is also cool to run a white and blue if you have a light colored ceiling.
...Hello I''m working on a project which has a parking lot. I will need a total of 9 fixtures for 20,373 sq ft 180 x 113. The area is Palmdale California and it is very windy. How should I obtain the photometric plan designs for this type of project to meet The City of Palmdale requirements?
Thank you for your inquiry regarding parking lot photometric information. We have many COMMERCIAL OUTDOOR POLE LIGHTS to choose from including METAL HALIDE FIXTURES, and HIGH PRESSURE SODIUM FIXTURES .
Our OUTDOOR LIGHT POLES range in height from 10' to 30' in round, tapered and square models.

We carry several light bulbs that fit House of Troy fixtures. In addition, we carry a full line of HOUSE OF TROY picture lights including TRADITIONAL, CONTEMPORARY, and BATTERY OPERATED models in all sizes and finishes.

We do carry an extensive line of STEP LIGHTS and other LOW VOLTAGE LIGHTING FIXTURES that may be of interest to you.
...I bought a new 300 watt low voltage transformer that is attached to about 175 feet of wire. The lights that I have attached, although significantly less than the indicated 300, drop off drastically in brightness at about the 100 foot mark. What need I do?You need to split the lighting load into several home run wires back to the transformer or you can run a continous loop wire from the end of the run back to the transformer to boost your voltage. In other words, feed from both ends! Please review our information page on low voltage lighting designs and voltage calculations.
...We just bought the 15'' light for our home volleyball court and would like to know how big and deep of a hole we need to make for the best stability. Thanks. That really depends on the soil conditions in your area. If you have any doubts you should contact a local engineer for his opinion. We recommend using at least a 16" diameter footing that is 6''-8'' deep. Click here to learn more about concrete footing for outdoor lighting fixtures.
...There's an interesting article recently published by Mike Otey which leads you through building a virtualized Windows Server 2003 cluster. You will need to be a paidup member to view unfortunately. Thanks Adam for that link. You can find similar information on RoudyBob.NET's excellent blog and also on microsoft.com. As if that's not enough, there's also this on-demand webcast which I think I've mentioned before [sorry ;-)]. So, no excuses for not having enough information at your fingertips if this is something you want to experiment with.

Yep, it's "Gary Friday"all doggone dayon the DDC Factory Floor.
...They don't call them "Hot Dogs" for nothing. Gary isn't taking to the heat too kindly. He's extra mad.
...Saw the Sam Prekop Band last night. Archer Prewitt, Chad Taylor, Josh Abrams and Sam.
So good. I was in awe, and completely taken by it.
Musicians. No ironic chatter, or haircuts, or flash-in-the-pan hype machine pollitics. Just amazing music.
I am so inspired by their craft, patience, humility and finesse.

...I''m just finishing up a major remodelling project and am stuck trying to find good kitchen undercabinet lighting. Your Phantom strips look like a good solution, but I''m looking for something that also has a diffuser because they will be over a polished granite countertop & I want to minimize spot reflections and glare. I like the strips because (1) the electrician has already wired for low-voltage, (2) I have several cabinet sizes I need to match (so fixed-width integrated units don''t match very well), (3) they''re low-profile. Any suggestions? ThanksReflective surfaces, especially granite counter tops, are always a problem! To counter the problem, we recommend using frosted lamps which minimizes the refective images. The only way to completely eliminate the reflections is to block the light with a shield. However, that just creates a shadow and restricts the lights from speading. I would recommend that you use our XENON LIGHT STRIP as a task light for your kitchen. Unfortunately, it goes with the territory.
...I am a board member at our local country club and have volunteered to do some groundwork for the construction of four tennis courts. They will all be in line on one level plane. Can you please give me a layout and price of what this would require? Four courts side-by-side require six of the Single190 fixture packages and nine of the Dual 2180 fixture packages. We have a full selection of tennis cout and sport court lighting packages. Please email your zip code and customer information to info@rlldesign.com for pricing and shipping information.
...We are in the process of redoing our front yard, adding a water feature, and walkway across the front of our house and down the side. We have used the cheap plastic malibu type light in the past and it''s time to move up. We like the focus AL-03-4T-10 pagoda but are not sure how many we will need. The walk way is 25 feet across the front and 20 feet down the side in an L shape. How many lights would you suggest? Also, we just want the walk highlighted but not brightly lit. Is the 18 watt bulb too bright, the 12 watt not bright enough? Would appreciate your advice. We will also be adding some pond lighting. We know it needs to be brass from reading the archives. Thank you for your assistance.P.S. Having spent the last week looking into this, your website is by far the most helpful, best organized I have seen. Thanks. Thanks for the kind words. I would use four of the Focus AL-03-4T-10 pagoda lights down your sidewalk. I would alternate them from side to side roughly ever five feet for an interesting effect. I would go with the 20-watt halogen lamps for both performance and lamp life. You will also need a transformer and some wire to com...
I have installed a low voltage landscape system and the owner would like a motion detector for flood lighting that was installed. Do you provide/sell low voltage motion detectors? What other types of low voltage lighting controls are available? Thank you.
We do have one motion detector that is designed to operate at 12 volt. It is a RAB STL12V Stealth. It would be perfect for your application!
I have a motion detector flood light that does come on at dark with motion but it also will stay on. I''ve moved the sensor, cut back on sensitivity etc. but it still stays on. It is over my garage. Any ideas WHY it stays on??ThanksSome motion detectors can be triggered to stay on by switching the power on and off repeatedly from the switch. This is an override feature to allow you to bypass the motion switch for continous duty. You might try resetting the device or consider replacing it. Check out our selection of RAB MOTION DETECTORS and RAB MOTION LIGHTS SWITCHES.
...I want to light a fountain that will sit in the center of a pond that is 8 x 8. We have on each end a 2x8 still water area for plants. The fountain is a five foot tierd bowl which spills over and drops to the pond of water below. The pool is 18 inches deep and will be a focal point at the end of a formal area at the rear of our house and is along a fairway on the golf course. We want this feature to be lit at night and done attractively we hope with low votage lighting. Please tell me what size light and how many to use and if used under water will the water spilling over the bowls shimmer with light or will we have to use light above the water? Again, this will be seen by neighbors and we would love to see the water from our house too. What size bulbs and how many do we need? Thanks for your help and immediate response as I have an open ditch for electric wires!!To properly light your tiered fountain you will need several light sources. One Under water Light to create the shimmering effect from the water movement. And one or more
I''m looking at getting two top access projectors. I need the ceiling hole to be small, hence the top access. What bottom cover plate comes with the projector? How do you set up and aim a top access projector - do you create a bigger hole initially, set it up and then cover up the hole (we can do this since the ceiling is drywall). Do the projectors all come with enough lenses to create narrow/wide beams, or does this need to be specified when ordering? Thanks. The Phantom Lighting top access is designed to penetrate the ceiling with a small oval hole. It does come with several lens configuratons and can be adjusted for various size works of art. We have many housings for the Phantom Contour Projector. We have a Float Finish, New Construction, Surface&nb...

I am placing outdoor speakers in my yard and need to run wire to them. Is low voltage (lighting) wire the same as outdoor speaker wire?Thank youIf you are not planning to install conduits you can most certainly use our cable for speaker wiring. Otherwise, I would probably use a traditional speaker wire with multiple conductors in a conduit. This will allow you to make repairs or reconfigure the system with having to dig up the yard. Check out or complete selection of OUTDOOR SPEAKERS AND ROCK SPEAKERS Don''t forget to install the outdoor lighting at the same time!
...I hope you can give me some information on how to run wire for low voltage exterior lighting under a concrete walkway. Thank you in advance for your help. The best way to get under a sidewalk is to jet under it using a 3/4" PVC pipe, female adapter and a water hose. It''s kind of messy, but pretty easy to do. Once you are under just cut the pipe and push the wire through. It''s that easy. Check out our selection of LOW VOLTAGE LIGHTING PRODUCTS.

If your warehouse has a ceiling height of 20' or more, I would use our HIGH BAY LIGHTING FIXTURES as your first option, the have an aluminum reflector that will not colect dirt and should work well in your work environment. If you have ceilings that are lower, I would consider the LOW BAY METAL HALIDE LIGHTS that are sealed and have a prismatic lens to disperse the lighting.

We are building an outdoor patio cover on the back of our home. It has a roof, but it does not have walls, so it is exposed to moisture. Do you have any weatherproof ceiling fans?
We carry a full line of WESTINGHOUSE WEATHERPROOF CEILING FANS designed for damp and wet locations. All our patio fans have gaskets at the juntion box, stem and have sealed moters to prevent damage from water and moisture.
I read your posting on using outdoor low voltage landscape lights at a distance from the transformer and the voltage drop problem. I eliminated that problem with my driveway lights by using a plastic electrical box with cover and putting a transformer inside. I used potting compound in the box to prevent moisture problems and connected it to the 14 gauge UF with 12 gauge zip cord for the low voltage AC from the secondary. I buried the boxes and each feeds 5 lights. I use an AC dimmer to control the feed to the transformers primary. With this configuration I have no appreciable low voltage drop and have full control of the driveway light intensity. It works well. Just wanted to let you in on this and hope you pass it on to others that may want to try it. It is a bit labor intensive and I would recommend testing the transformer assemblies before potting. Make a few extras, while you are at it.
Hey, thanks for the information! We have some DIRECT BURIAL TRANFORMER BOXES very similar to what you described. If you can keep the water out of them, they work great. The

Several weeks ago I started a project to rebuild an old fountain in my garden. In addition to the pump, I also need a new underwater light. Any recommendations would be appreciated.
We have serveral OUTDOOR LOW VOLTAGE UNDERWATER LIGHTS posted on our web site. The HADCO UWL516H is a great little MR16 fountain light. It has a compression molded fiberglass reinforced polyester composite housing and a concrete weighted base to handle just about any water turbulance. It does require a LOW VOLTAGE TRANSFORMER.
What is the smallest low voltage brass underwater light that you have?
Focus Industries has just introduced the SL40 BRASS UNDERWATER LIGHT which is one of the smallest fixtues in the industry. This handsome light is just over 2" in diameter and comes with a adjustable mounting bracket and one sided glare shield. In addition, FOCUS LIGHTING manufactures other under water lights such as the SL11 LIGHT WITH A PAR36 LAMP and a SL33 LIGHT WITH A MR16 LAMP.
Hi, I am looking for some sort of strip light or flourescent lights that I can hang under each shelf of my china cabinet to light up the items in the cabinet. I am looking for something that runs on batteries so I dont have to drill holes into the back of the china cabinet. Any suggestions?
The BATTERY OPERATED PICTURE LIGHTS we have are not really designed to do what you want. We do have HOUSE OF TROY ADVENT STRIP LIGHTS that are very easy to install and the wires can be spliced inside the cabinet. That way you only have to drill one small hole for the cord to exit the back of the cabinet. We have MALE & FEMALE QUICK CAPS that make the splicing simple and LAMP CORD DIMMERS to set the light levels!
I have a question regarding the malibu transformer power pack. I have it plugged in no lights attached and it hums whether it is switched on or off.The lights work perfect when it is on(hums alittle more loudly). Is it supposed to be humming all the time? Just curious if it was normal. The humming is normal for all transformers and ballasts. Read my TRANSFORMER & BALLAST NOISE PAGE for more information on controlling the hums and buzzes.Thank you for your question. ...What can you tell me about the new Lutron Qoto dimmer? Other than the unique styling, does it do something other dimmers don't?
Basically, the LUTRON QOTO DIMMER SWITCH is designed to replace a standard toggle switch. The dimmer has a few unique features:
The QOTO DIMMER BY LUTRON ELECTRONICS is also available in a non dimming switch for motor loads or other lighting loads where dimming is not desired. They even have a 1000-WATT QOTO DIMMER for larger loads!
...Some of my tennis court light fixtures are not working. I was thinking about renting a big ladder and making the repairs myself. Do you sell replacement sockets, ballasts and lamps for tennis court lighting?
Of course we have replacement TENNIS COURT LIGHTING parts! We have replacements for both METAL HALIDE BALLASTS and MERCURY VAPOR BALLASTS in all the popular wattages. We also have MOGAL BASE SOCKETS, MECURY VAPOR LAMPS and METAL HALIDE LAMPS in stock.

We have a small pond and waterfall in our back yard that is very shallow. I want to provide some light below the waterfall to show the falling water. Do you have a shallow pond light? We have several POND & UNDERWATER LIGHTS that would work. The HADCO UWL1-A LOW VOLTAGE POND LIGHT would be my first choice. It comes with a small shield that fits inside the lens that blocks the light from the front view. The HADCO UWL 516H is a great little light, but you will need at least 8" of water for this to work. Both lights require a LOW VOLTAGE TRANSFORMER!
...I have seen these little switches on closet doors that control the lights. Do you know who makes these?
THe DOOR JAMB SWITCHES you have described are made by EDWARDS and PERFECTLINE manufacturing. They must be mortised into the door jamb on the hindge side during construction. I have seen them added after the fact with some removal of sheetrock to facilitate the wiring.
Can I really dim a halogen light bulb?
A 120V QUARTZ HALOGEN LAMP can be dimmed with a regular incandescent dimmer. A LOW VOLTAGE HALOGEN such as a MR11, MR16 or PAR36 lamp requires a MAGNETIC LOW VOLTAGE DIMMER or an ELECTRONIC LOW VOLTAGE DIMMER. See our full selection of LUTRON LIGHTING CONTROLS!
Solar landscape lights verses hardwire. Their only for looks so being low voltage it seems they would be fine? Your thoughts please. Thanks
Solar lights are very appealing because of the ease of installation and cost. However, most solar landscape lighting is not very effective beause they produce very little light and get dimmer as the battery runs out. I prefer a HARD WIRED OUTDOOR LIGHTING SYSTEM over solar because it is more reliable and produces a more desirable lighting design. we have many OUTDOOR LOW VOLTAGE LIGHTING KITS that are easy to install and come with everything you need.
I'M AN ELECTRICIAN AND DONE JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING BUT I''M WORKING WITH A HOME OWNER WHO WANT''S TO LIGHT UP HIS HOUSE AT NIGHT ( NOT BRIGHT ). I HAVE WORKED IN FACTORIES WHERE THE LIGHTING IS CONTROLLED FROM REMOTE BALLASTS. IF I WANTED TO STRING ABOUT 6 OR SO 50WATT MV. LIGHTS AROUND THE FRONT OF THE HOUSE ,WHAT TYPE OF BALLAST WOULD I NEED AND DO YOU HAVE IT ?. FROM PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE AN R-30 LAMP IN SOME TYPE OF FIXTURE MIGHT DO IT.SUGGESTIONS?
If you want to light the house, I would not use mercury vapor, but rather a warmer source such as INCANDESCENT. We have several LOW VOLTAGE LIGHTING KITS with everything you need to do the installation. I prefer the MR16 LOW VOLTAGE LIGHTS due to the size of the fixture and color of the light. If you are lighting trees or shrubs we have a great selection of MERCURY VAPOR LIGHTING FIXTURES in all shapes and wattages and 50-WATT MERCURY VAPOR UP LIGHT is the lowest wattage we h...
I am trying to design an outdoor lighting system that will light the outside of the house (the walls in front) The sidwalk is very close to the house(2.5 feet) so what kind of light would spread far enough to light the wall and yet go up high on the same wall. Should I use a rectangular fixture or should I use the roung bullet lights? What is the angle of disbursed light from the fixture? What wattage should I expect to use to gauge the transformer? What is your least expensive up light for trees. I am not interested in fancy metals, just something simple that the lawnmower will not eat.thank youThe BULLET SHAPED LOW VOLTAGE UP LIGHTS (50 watt) have more punch as far as throwing light, but don''t do as well in short wide throws. Since your sidewalk is so close to the house, I would go with a RECTANGULAR LOW VOLTAGE WALL WASHER FIXTURE (35 watt) for even illumination on the house. You should use 12/...
We are building on 20 acres with house on top and majority of the land drops down to the valley floor 800ft. below. I would like to have a couple pole lights that will illuminate smaller areas as "guide lights" on the way down for when we take in night time fire pits, etc. I do not wish to have these lights on all night every night. The idea would be to "switch" the light on from the house then when I am down to that particular light pole, I have a choice to either turn that light off completely or "dim" it down if preferred. I imagine the pole being no higher then 12'' (to 15?) Do they make such, and if so, what would you recommend?Thank you for your attention, DEE
I would recommend that you consider using FOCUS COPPER PATH LIGHTS to illuminate your trail to the firepit! I would put a PATH LIGHT every 20'' or so and alternate back and forth for a handsome look. Having pole lights will certainly be more efficient, but path lights are more charming and won''t create light pollution preventing you for enjoying the stars on a c...
I have a Malibu ML300TRW power pack and the instructions cover only terminal blocks A & B -- what is C used for? ThanksThe "C" terminal on your MALIBU ML300TRW TRANFORMER is not used on this model. On larger transformers, the "C" teriminal is used for additional circuits. Simply put your wires under terminals "A" and "B". That will get you the 12 volt output you need to power up your OUTDOOR LIGHTING SYSTEM TRANSFORMER.
...The wiring for my low voltage malibu lights were cut by a shovel wielding gardener. How do I connect the front half works fine?
Wiring for LOW VOLTAGE LIGHTING is pretty simple. Splicing a wire is no big deal! Just strip back the wires and make a splice with wirenuts filled with silicone sealer. Then tape the connections with electrical tape for extra precautions. If you want to run LOW VOLTAGE LIGHTING CABLE we have both 10/2 and 12/2 LOW VOLTAGE LIGHTING WIRE.
Do the Lutron face plates fit on regular switches/outlets or do I have to by the entire switch/outlet?
The LUTRON CLARO WALL PLATE wallplate does fit many other switches and outlets such a LEVITON DECORA DEVICES, but not all. If you have a standard TOGGLE SWITCH you need the LUTRON FASSADAWALL PLATES or LUTRON QUOTO DIMMER CONTROLS.
Several of my outdoor lights have gone out and I need some help. The system was originally installed by John Watson Landscape Illumination years ago for the previous owner. My electrician says he does not have a good source for landscape lighting replacement parts. Can you help me?
From my experience, Mr. Watson installs MERCURY VAPOR LIGHTING EQUIPMENT as his main lighting source. Mercury vapor lamps come in many shapes and wattages.
If you have BULLET FIXTURES you need a REFLECTOR STYLE MERCURY VAPOR LAMP such as R20, R30 or R40.
If you have BOX FIXTURES you need a ASPHERICAL STYLE MERCURY VAPOR LAMP such as a H100, H175, H250 or H400.
Have you electrician check the type and wattage before you order. We also have
Hello, im searching for a very large outdoor lighted christmas decoration that can be displayed from my deck wall. it needs to be very large, as it will be seen from a estimated distance of 1/4 of a mile. The deck wall sits on a cliff. If you can help in anyway please email or call...thank-you.
We have several LARGE CHRISTMAS SCULPTURES that might work for your SEASONAL HOLIDAY DISPLAY. Our GLOBE STRING LIGHTS would look very nice around the deck railing and because of the size, sparkle from that distance. In addition, we have a great assortment of MINI STRING LIGHTS and NET LIGHTS for trees or shrubs surrounding the deck area.
I am looking for some temporary halogen work lights on a stand. Can you help me?
We have a couple HALOGEN WORK LIGHTS from RAB LIGHTING. I hope this is what you are looking for. If you are a contractor and would like a quantity discount, give us a call at 800-239-2939 Monday through Friday 8:00 to 4:00 CST.
I wanted to know what the best way to connect a " Y "(or one into two) on my low voltage landscape lights. With the single end going to the transformer & then appx.50ft. out is where I need the " Y " connection at, & then continue out appx 25-35ft on each of those ends. Would I just tie into the main wire coming off the transformer? My light system output is 12v A.C. Thank you very much!If you are planning to splice the wires and split the load you must first calculate the total amperage of the load. This is done by dividing the total wattage by the voltage and which is explained in our DESIGNING LOW VOLTAGE LIGHTING PAGE. If you are using 12/2 LANDSCAPE LIGHTING CABLE you must stay below 20 amps. FYI - 10/2 LANDCAPE WIRE is good for 30 amps. You can run 200 watts approximately 75-100' feet before you begin to experience voltage drop with #12. Although it may cost more, it is always better to run individual wires or insta...
What kind of dimmer switch or any device that I would need , to solve the buzzing noise problem for low voltage track light with dimmer ? Thanks
The buzz is normally caused by the wrong type or size of DIMMER CONTROL. If your fixtures are low voltage they have either have a magnetic or electronic transformer. There are dimmers specifically designed for both types on our website. You need to identify the total wattage of the load and verify the type of load. Once you have that figured out, it should be fairly simple to select the right dimmer to solve the problem. You might also take a look at our LUTRON FAQ'S regarding this matter. Good Luck!
In a bathroom application, I recently installed two 300watt halogen vanity lights that are controlled by one single-pole switch. On the same power source (hot wire) are two other lighting sources (and switches)in the bathroom. Prior to installation, all switches operated normally. When I installed the dimmer switch (first a 600w then a 1000w-halogen) for the vanity light, however, ALL THREE switches failed to operate. (Yes, I even switch the wires to cover all options) Strangely enough, when I moved the dimmer swithch to one of the other two switch locations (all are single-pole), the dimmer did work. The switch for the dimmer receives the "hot" wire from the adjacent switch. My efforts tend to indicate that the wiring may be the problem. Can you help me to understand what may be my problem?
Generally there is one hot wire or circuit per switch box that feeds all the devices. The white or neutral wires are usually twisted together. When you installed the DIMMER SWITCH you must have disconnected the hot wire to the other switches by mistake. Sounds like you got things corrected, otherwise the breaker would have tripped indicating otherwise. Glad to hear that you...
Do you have any lights that are 12" high, or less, to put along a sidewalk that goes through a park? Something that will light the path without shining into nearby houses and that will be vandal resistent.
We have several 120-volt INCANDESCENT PATH LIGHTS and FLUORESCENT PATHLIGHTS that can be used to illuminate sidewalks, driveways and other pedestrian areas. We also have some 12-volt LOW VOLTAGE MUSHROOM LIGHTS and PAGODA LIGHTS as well.
WOW, I just realized from reading your web site that Christmas is just around the corner. Your "Days To Christmas" calculator is a very handy tool. I plan to get in the attic this weekend and take a look at my supplies. Thanks!
Your'e Welcome! Our Chistmas calculator is a very handy tool. If you are like me, the days are just flying by and it will be Christmas before you know it! After you do your inventory, give us a call and we will be glad to fill any holes you have in your OUTDOOR CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS. By ordering early, you will most certainly beat the last minute rush!
We have been talking about going from a real to an artifical tree. My wife is pushing for the pre-lit model you have posted. Are they real looking?
The PRELIT CHRISTMAS TREES and LIGHTED GARLAND we offer are some of the best looking ARTIFICAL TREES on the market. You won't be disappointed! Just think, now mess to clean up or nasty water to empty out in January!
This is relative to "Daisy Chaining" your Under Cabinet Lights and do you need more than one transformer to achieve the task ?
Thanks for the inquiry! You can connect our PHANTOM STRIP LIGHTS end to end as long as the total load does not exceed 13.33 amps per run. (watts/voltage = amps) We have PHANTOM LIGHTING TRANSFORMERS that will handle loads up to 1000 watts. In a case where you have several strips in various locations you can run individual home run wires from each fixture back to the transformar. If you decide to switch some sections seperately you will need a transformer for each switch leg grouping. Don't forget to use a LUTRON DIMMER CONTROL for mood setting
Which of your lamp product designs and lengths do you recommend for an ebony black baby grand?
With out a doubt, I would go with the BLACK GRAND PIANO SLIMELINE FIXTURE or you could go with a more TRADITIONAL PIANO LIGHT in black!
Is there a wide art light, such as the House of Troy Slim Line, that would wash a Burmese tapestry adequately? It measures 65" H x 77 " W.
The only way to light something that large is with two or more HOUSE OF TROY T-36" PICTURE LIGHTS mounted to the wall. In any case the light at the top of the tapestry will be much brighter than the bottom. HOUSE OF TROY COLOR CHART for tradional light fixtures.
I just bought a Lutron-Skylark electronic low-voltage dimmer switch 300Watt. The problem is in the manual it says I need a neutral wire to be in the junction box. However, when I pulled the cover plate off of the existing switch there were only two black wires connected to the switch with white ones taped together in the back. There are only two wires it looks like to install new switch to. What should I do? The directions show connecting three wires to the new switch, but I've only got two!!?? House built in mid 1960's. I hope I can avoid calling an electrician to run a neutral wire from the panel box. I'm hoping you won't tell me I have to do this. Thanks for your help.
I'm afraid you will need a neutral wire to make the SKYLARK ELECTRONIC DIMMER CONTROL work. However, you don't need to go all the way back to the panel. Locate a receptacle in the wall adjacent to the switch and you can pick up a neutral there. It may require cutting the drywall or if your lucky just fishing a wire. Unless you are comfortable working with electricity, I would call a electrician for assistance installing your
I have a couple of questions on a House of Troy HOT RT-8 battery operated picture light. How do you turn it on and off? What size picture can it illuninate? How accessible is the rechargeable battery?
The HOUSE OF TROY BATTERY OPERATED PICTURE LIGHT is really designed for small to medium sized paintings up to 18" wide. The fixture is mostly a big battery with a relatively small light source. The switch is located in the shade and it will operate for 6-8 hours before needing a recharge. If you don't have a plug near by the fixture can easily be removed and plugged in anywhere. If you are interested we also have CLIP ON PITCURE LIGHTS designed for art shows, music stands and temporary art lighting.
Can you install a Lutron DV-603P multiswitch dimmer in a loop with two halogen bulbs and three switches, the dimmer being one of the switches--the only one with a dimmer on it?
Yes, you can install a LUTRON DIMMER CONTROL on a four way switching system. Find the switch with only three wires and replace it with a three way dimmer. If your halogen lamps are low voltage, and have a transformer, you will need either a MAGNETIC DIMMER or ELECTRONIC DIMMER that matches your load. We have both types in stock and ready for immediate delivery! We also have GRAFIK EYE SYSTEMS, SPACER CONTROLS and
I would like to know how to figure out how many recessed lights go on one 20amp circut. Do you have a sheet or equation to help figure the load?
You can put 1960 watts of constant load on a 20 amp circuit. Ohms Law - Divide watts by voltage equals amperage. 1960W/120V=16 amps. Check out of fine selection of RESIDENTIAL LIGHTING FIXTURES and OUTDOOR LANDSCAPE LIGHTING FIXTURES.
My wife and I just remodeled an older home. Nothing fancy, but perfect for us. We finally finished the interior and now we are working on the exterior landscaping and lighting. Well, the only light we have is a ugly lantern next to the front door. Do you have any good looking lanterns and low voltage landscape fixtures?
Sure, we have some great OUTDOOR LOW VOLTAGE LANDSCAPE LIGHTING KITS and OUTDOOR WALL LIGHTING LANTERNS that are competitively priced and in stock! If you don't see one you like, just give us a call 800-239-2939 and we can get just about anything!
