my baby nalakuvara by gin

NALA"COOL"!

An Open letter to John Warnock

John,
I am writing this to you because of all the people on the planet, you are quite literally the only person I know of who could make what I am about to ask for a reality. But before I get to my request, let me please start with a few words of thanks.
I hope I speak for all designers when I say that without question, your contributions to the world of design through the technology of PostScript and the subsequent business you built in Adobe Systems, has quite simply changed the face of design. You’ve made the life of designers everywhere on the planet more fulfilling and have given us the tools and technology to progress our craft. Through Adobe, you’ve given us the gift of Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign, and countless many other creative applications that have become the core tools for our profession.
On a personal note, I’ve been privileged to have had the dream job early in my career at the company you built. That opportunity provided me the room to grow in my craft in ways that I never could have imagined before going in. Adobe is in my blood.
I will never...

Convenient Lessons from An Inconvenient Truth

If you have not yet seen An Inconvenient Truth, then I highly recommend that you do. It’s a compelling film and one that deserves to be taken seriously, regardless of what your opinion of anyone with a (D) in front of their name might be. However, I’m not going to get into the science or politics of the movie, which I admit I found quite convincing. I want to examine a few issues more closely tied to my profession.
As a designer, I found the presentation of the information in the movie thoroughly engaging. The slides that Mr. Gore used — designed by Duarte Design — were clean, clear and communicated complex sets of data in an accessible fashion. There was excellent use of movement to reveal the underlying story the data was telling us. There were moments of humor used to break up the relentless abuse the facts can have on one’s psyche. And there was near perfect use of contrast and scale to communicate the significance of the situation.
What could have been just yet another crappy

The Second Renaissance

You may not know it, but we're in the beginning of what will one day be defined by historians as the Second Renaissance or "rebirth" of arts and culture. The First Renaissance started in Italy in the 1300's, lasted several hundred years, and centered around the rediscovery of ancient texts and classical learning that was dormant Europe during the Middle Ages. This rediscovery brought about profound changes in every area of society that formed the basis of what we now consider Modern society. The First Renaissance witnessed the birth of the Reformation, the rise of Humanism and the spark of the Scientific Revolution. And the institutional Christian church played a significant role in funding and shaping much of the major movements during this period. As a result, the art, philosophy (minus humanism) and music of that period bore the distinct marks of the church and a calling to a higher, deeper Purpose that those disciplines serve. The Second Renaissance is quite different. While technology still fuels it--the computer and Internet taking the place of the printing press and monks--the Second Renaissance signals the transition of the Modern era into a Post-Modern one. This Second Renaissance is not being shaped by institutions--the Church or otherwise, but by individuals and...

Idyllic Summer and lovely faeries

It’s a lovely summer day here and with Gretel posting about the Society of Secret Fairies (a wondeful idea!) I thought I’d post a photo I took of my friend Claire’s daughter last summer in my garden. Taken with a Canon A30 Power Shot, worked on in Photoshop, I then printed a 10 x 8 print which I gave to my friend as a reminder of a lovely afternoon.Hope all of you are having a lovely idyllic summer

Butterflies and Bees

There seems to be an abundance of butterflies and insects about this summer and I have been able to capture some great shots in the garden which I thought I’d share here. The bee on the cornflower seem to be having a good day judging by the pollen he had collected and it’s a win-win situation the butterflies and bees get a well earned pesticide free meal, and we get the pleasure of beautiful flowers and a bumper crop of fruit and vegetables. Due to the abundance of flowers they don't seem to mind sharingI was so pleased with the photo below i have decided to used it as my desktop wallpaper. The butterfly in the photo is a Speckled wood Pararge aegeria
