Those who believe fashion mirrors world events are preparing for a change. After more then ten years living in economic boom, some are wondering how a possible recession might show up in fashion trends.
A return to the pared down minimalism of the Nineties, or decadence that flies in the face of leaner times. Finance and fashion have always been closely linked. With spring/summer collections just arriving in store perhaps the autumn/winter shows, starting this week in New York, are a better indication of things to come.
In New York, the much anticipated re-launch of the iconic Seventies fashion label Halston stayed true to its roots in muted earth tones, cowl necklines, and fabrics with sex appeal. Clearly optimistic about the brand's financial success, Miramax mogul Harvey Weinstein, Jimmy Choo founder Tamara Mellon, and celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe, are the power behind this power brand.
Halston is not the only brand with financial backing; business savvy designers Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez of Proenza Schouler (both still in their twenties), had venture capital back their second collection (the Valentino Group now owns a 45 per cent share in the brand). Far from minimalist, their...

Here, in Arad, one cannot walk the streets without constantly being surrounded by cats. We’re staying in the town center, and that’s also one of the hottest spots for them. Throughout our stay in Israel we’ve met numerous cats, by now we probably know and recognize each one. We often buy them yummy kittycat food and let them have a grand feast
In Israel they usually don’t put cats into a pound. Instead, the Cat Welfare Society of Israel comes, takes the cats away, neuters them, gives them the necessary shots, and returns them back to where they were. The Cat Welfare Society also arranges adoptions of cats. Though some people might disagree about neutering the cats, but i think it’s way better than mass killing the cats, as it’s practiced in some countries.
Here are some photos i took of the kitties:
The little green box
These 2 kittycats were very cold and kept following me at night, so we got them a box to keep them warm, they were happy and stayed there every night since then.
I summon the demons
Another cute kittycat, i took care of him when he was sick and coughing.

A lumpy yet worthy essay collection sets the record about master builders straight.
Giant Robot is proud to host Overgrowth, a group art show featuring Katherine Guillen, Zachary Rossman, and Brian Rush at GR2. For the exhibit, the artists are creating about 20 collaborative works, each 4” by 6” in size.
The title of the show refers not only to the natural themes of the mixed-media pieces, but also the collaboration process, as each of the artists allowed his or her own artwork to be consumed by the others’ contributions.
On her own, Guillen will show gouache paintings and prints that explore the tenuous relationship between the urban and natural environments. These works resemble landscapes, but are more narrative and symbolic than picturesque.
Rossman will present a body of delicately crafted gouache and graphite drawings. Using a vernacular indicative of natural history book imagery, his work explores themes of decay, isolation and supernatural occurrences.
Rush is preparing small paintings, medium-sized mixed-media pieces, and sculptures. Incorporating cartoon, scientific, and abstract imagery, his pieces depict whimsy as a divider between “facts” and creativity.
