There are usually a few defining sartorial moments in the life of those who love fashion. In mine it was one of my mother's dresses (a navy blue Chanel chiffon shift), my father's Nutty Professor look - cardigans and all - and a photo by Patrick Lichfield of Bianca and Mick Jagger on their wedding day in 1971. Wearing a white pantsuit and a wide brimmed hat, Bianca practically oozes style icon.
The news that this legendary white suit's equally legendary Saville Row tailor Edward Sexton is still creating bespoke suits for the likes of Marie Helvin, magazine editors, and businessmen, was all the encouragement I needed to schedule an appointment.
With ever more seasonal collections to choose from, couture, ready to wear, and the pre collections, I find myself wanting to invest in clothes with staying power. Refurbishing a vintage Hermes Kelly bag passed down from my grandmother and having a bespoke Savile Row suit made are investments that will never go out of style.
On the first appointment with Edward Sexton what strikes you is his charm, wicked sense of humour, his friends (there are pictures on his wall of him with Stella McCartney, Paul McCartney and Mick Jagger), his portfolio dressing Jackie ...

Attending the fashion shows in London, Milan, and Paris, is as exciting as it sounds. It is a privileged first look at fashion's newest ideas. Yet negotiating the fashion capitals in uber high heels and unseasonable clothes can sometimes be as freakish as it is fashionable.
The contrast between fashion and real dressing is rarely more extreme then during fashion weeks. American tourists in fleece and trainers take pictures of the sights, while Amazonian models - in four-inch heels, full make-up and show hair - rush by on their way to the next show.
Of course the collections are the main focus of fashion week but for some, dressing for the occasion is a measure of their style credentials. No hat is too strange, no wedged heel too wedged, no dress from spring/summer too summery to wear in February.
Locals are used to the twice-yearly migration of fashion editors wearing their best and brightest, but that doesn't stop them from gaping at the funeral-like procession of women wearing mostly black, oversized sunglasses, and towering heels.
Eager to capture the trends both on and off the catwalk, photographers snap models and editors alike. The ultimate compliment is to be photographe...

Most of my friends have embraced the idea of paying more for less. I am not referring to London house prices or Starbucks cappuccinos, but organic beauty products. Far from feeling short changed, the less refers to the chemicals not added. Many feel the benefits outweigh any extra cost. Once fringe or alternative, organic beauty brands are now sold at most mainstream stores. There is an assumption that organic is always best, and although there are certification requirements, not all products live up to the same standard.
I recently overheard an organic brand consultant telling a customer with sensitive skin that natural or organic ingredients don't cause irritation. This is poor training rather than a reflection of the brand. Clearly more education is needed to distinguish between the many products available based on their effectiveness and green credentials.
According to (Australian biodynamic beauty brand) Jurlique's CEO Eli Halliwell, biodynamic farming produces healthier more effective plants and therefore make products more effective. Short of a chemistry lesson, biodynamic farming shares the basic premise of organic farming, and uses a system of crop rotation and cyclical harvesting that takes sustainab...

As a New Yorker living in London, I am probably the only Londoner who feels sympathy for America's weak dollar. The strong Euro and stronger pound make New York one big bargain basement for Europeans, and increasingly expensive for New Yorkers.
Economics is rarely this interesting for fashionistas. The law of supply and demand require European brands sold in America to keep their prices low to remain competitive. This means that the Lanvin dress or Bottega Veneta shoes I am desperate for will be nearly half the price in New York.
Current exchange rates are good news for Europeans, but make it harder for Americans to travel abroad or buy European brands in New York. And while tourism is good for New York's economy, prices are rising as many brands remove price caps - irrelevant if Europeans are doing most of the shopping.
If financial sage Allen Greenspan is correct, the dollar will get weaker. In future it may get even cheaper to fly to New York and shop. Yet higher prices might push some New Yorkers out of the market all together. Don't be surprised if some start sewing their own clothes!
While I might be sympathetic, the low value of the dollar has made it a good time to plan an extra holiday ...

Malta is a 7000 year old island, which is situated 93 km south of Sicily. Though it’s a small country, it has a very rich historical past. It has been invaded by several cultures – Sicilian, Phoenician, Roman, Byzantine, Turkish, Arabic, French, Spanish and British, hence the variety of styles in Maltese architecture and their peculiar language. Maltese language is considered a Semitic language, however it’s the only Semitic language which uses Roman alphabet.
The climate in Malta is great – when we arrived to Malta from Germany, we were wearing winter clothes, but we had to take them off immediately, since it was very warm and some people were even sunbathing on the roofs of the hotels. I was very happy about that, since i dislike cold weather very, very much. We stayed in Sliema, one of the cities on the coast. The day we arrived, we decided to go for a walk and check out Sliema, but by walking around for about 3 hours we ended up going through 3 cities – Sliema,...
These days, in this trendy world, folks get very sensitive when they do not look fully presentable. This would also be the truth in designing their web sites. So when it comes to this work, major emphasis should be paid to every microscopic element to secure it performs optimally to contribute its destination. Here are five important rules to make sure that you or the website design firm perform the work as expected.
Have a plain and recognizable navigation
You have to present a simple and very self-explanatory navigation menu so that even a young child will know what to do. Stay away from complex Flash based menus or multi-tiered dropdown menus. If your visitors don’t know how to navigate and find the stuff they are looking for, they will quit your site.
Do not use Splash pages
Splash pages are the front pages you observe when you pop in at a website. They normally have a very lovely picture with text similar “welcome” or “click here to enter”. In fact they are right like an artificial apple lovely looking with no concrete meaning. or the website owner it might be attractive, esepcially the frequent surfer will hate it. And afte...

JUNIOR LUCKY BASTARD is exactly what it sounds like. This is a job role though - not a passing comment on the street. This is a chance to be plucked from obscurity and hoisted into the realm of stardom. This is a chance to shine like a supernova at what is very loosely tagged as a ‘job’.
So here it is! The solution to all your woes! The chance to finally do something more noteworthy in your life than queuing up to place your nose against the daily grindstone with the rest of the masses.
Such a job exists at 55DSL. Be 55DSL’s very own beloved Junior Lucky Bastard! So what if you were a nerd in college with barely any friends aside from the few imaginary ones? They will take you into their collective bosom and make sure you’re snuggled in tight, preparing you for the year of your life!
This is not a joke, it’s not a competition and it’s certainly not a gimmick. 55DSL needs people to roam the earth and find all that is good and pure and kick ass.
Plus they will be stocking them up with all the tees, jackets, sweats and denim their little hearts desire; or their suitcases can fit.
And did we mention that you get to do all of ...
Tara Palmer-Tomkinson once claimed she never turns right when boarding an aircraft. The Turnleft guys do – you can find them on seat 32E, nibbling salty nuts and fighting for elbow room. But they are still modern jet-setters and they wouldn’t be seen dead on a bateau mouche.
Sometimes they like posh restaurants and sometimes they fall out of taxis: Turnleft is the Kate Moss of travel guides! Wherever they are, they enjoy good friends, fashion, design, architecture, exciting art studios, concept restaurants and music gigs.
Turnleft is a series of insiders’ guides with great tips to the local scene. All the guides are free and edited independently.

We all know of someone who spends far too much time trawling the internet looking for arcane knowledge on crop circles, the Roswell Incident and x-ray specs.
That is not to say that all conspiracy-theories are a load of old cobblers*… necessarily. As with any second-hand news, be it on the BBC or a guy sandwiched between the words ‘The End is nigh’, it’s always important to retain a certain degree of scepticism.

That said, where it does get interesting is when a successful Hollywood producer – not a paranoid pothead – makes it his personal mission to find truthful answers to big questions.
This much at least can be said of the late film-maker turned political-activist Aaron Russo. You may know of Mr. Russo for 80’s classics such as Rude Awakening and Trading Places, both of which he produced. However, latterly his work took on a more serious edge as he turned his focus to the corruption he believed existed at the core of both the U.S government and the centralised bank (Federal Reserve) which controls it.
Sadly Russo died last August after a long battle against cancer; but thankfully he did not leave us empty-handed. Russo’s final legacy, released just a year prior to his death, is...
