Rupert Sanderson in Italy

Rupert Sanderson in Paris

Every time we come to Paris I feel its gravitational pull gets stronger and stronger. As with retail in this uncertain world the primary sites are becoming more desirable (and expensive), as the secondary sites (Ledbury Road, you have been warned), become less so.
We have decided to concentrate our ex-London wholesale account, selling and international press presentations, in Paris next year and I think we have found a perfect home - it has one of the best views of the Eiffel Tower (literally through the Trocadero), one could imagine.
Talk about an iconic building - forever evokes romance, even when baked in bread.

J'adore Paris!

Rupert Sanderson visits two great restaurants

I'm lucky enough to eat quite well, spending as I do, about 3 months a year in Italy. And I when I say quite well - I mean in an everyday Tavola Calda sense.
Now it may not be new news but British food is just getting better and better. I ate in two places this weekend that really knocked me out: 32 Great Queen Street at err... 32 Great Queen Street WC2 and Albion, part of the Conran Group's new hotel, bistro and restaurant setup in Boundary Street, Shoreditch, both serving a type of uncomplicated, delicious British fare that Italian friends of mine just rave about when they are over.
How's this: slow cooked shoulder of lamb served for a minimum of four people (reminiscent of the Italian staple Stinco al Forno), just fell off the bone and was spot on for slightly beery lads on a Friday night. Sunday lunch at Albion was again perfectly pitched, this time for a family not looking to be drowned in gravy. Sliced cold roast beef and potato salad with a round of Coronation chicken sandwiches.
British food so familiar, but served and sourced with the care that Italians instinctively lavish on their food. Gustosissimo!

Shine Up The Battle Apple

On the face of it I think I managed to combine two of the most perfect events happening in London last night: Jeff Koons' opening at the Serpentine (www.serpentinegallery.org) and Steely Dan at the Hammersmith Apollo (www.steelydan.com).

The two protagonists, Koons and Steely Dan's chief ringmaster Donald Fagen, are like two peas from the same New York City pod; they share the title of World's Most Pathological Perfectionists. Now, I consider myself pretty fussy about my craft - but these guys are legendary.
Even last night, Koons rejected the traditional Serpentine limited print so many times it had to be taxied to the show an hour late - and this of a drawing done it 2003!
The stories of Fagen are legion but to give an idea; on probably their most famous album Aja (just the 38 session musicians used), Bernard Purdie (the best drummer in the world at the time), after apparently getting take...

Paul Smith on the Harry Potter phenomenon

If you're reading this and you're old enough to remember Cat Stevens - who changed his name to Yusuf Islam - you might want to know that his new album Road Singer is very nice too, he's got a great voice.
Of course Harry Potter is the big film launch of the moment, too. How cute is Hermione these days? She was once just a school girl but she's really grown up into a beautiful young model now - she looked amazing on the Jonathan Ross show.

Emma Watson &copy PA
I am a bit of a Harry Potter fan - I've read all the books because they are about right for my mental age. I'm about to go off to our house in Italy for a month and I'll probably read something left over from Pauline's grandson who is 9. In fact I'll probably be reading the Secret Seven - I don't mind anyone knowing.

...

Paul Smith loves Island Records

There is another great album out to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Island Records. They brought so many of the best artists to the UK - from Bob Marley to Paul Weller to Bryan Ferry - and they've put together a fantastic double CD box called Island Life. It's a great compilation including U2, Marley, Amy Winehouse, Roxy Music and much more.

Paul Smith - exhibition and album recommendations

Craigie Aitchison, a really great artist of about 80-years-old who is a favourite of mine, has an exhibition starting on July 9 at the Timothy Taylor gallery at 15 Carlos Place, W1 - just next to the Connaught - you should definitely try to see it.
Also, I've talked about Florence & The Machine in my blog before - her new album is out now and I love it. It's called Lungs.

Menswear, Couture and this week's exhibition

We had our menswear show a week last Sunday - it went really well and we got great reviews for it. By now all the Michael Jackson tributes are a bit overblown but we just spontaneously decided to add Thriller to our finale music on the day, even though all the show music had been decided ages before. Then someone put it on youtube and it's had hundreds and hundreds of views. Watch the video here (scroll forward to the 3 minute mark): www.vogue.co.uk/fashion/show.aspx/video/id,7915

Couture is on at the moment, of course. Thank goodness it is still around. It is a very different industry to the days when Pauline and I used to go and see the shows - it was just 30 people. These days it's more like 1,000. Times they are a-changing - but it's fantastic that it is still going - that there is still a craft there that is still being celebrated.

My other obsession is going on at the moment of course, too. The Tour de France is on and on the first day my friend Bradley Wiggins (whose old bike is at my house in Italy - Pauline bought it for me last year), came 3rd which is great. Then for the next two days it was won by British rider Mark Cavendish who is also a mate of mine.

Lara Bohinc goes to Temperley

I have pre-August fatigue.
All our suppliers close for at least for two weeks in August so the July rush to finish all the samples and production has been getting me down. My boyfriend has been travelling like mad and sleeping next to nothing so we have decided to extend our three day weekend in the countryside into five.
First we were off to the Temperley summer party in Somerset. Not really a thing to do if you want to relax, but it was definitely a great thing to do to unwind!
Alice and Lars are amazing hosts and they laid on an affair that will certainly be remembered. Non-stop music, bouncy castle, organic food, enormous amounts of drink and a mass of lunatic super-fun friends is a great recipe for a party. The theme "Leather and Lace, Debauchery and Grace" ensured that we were in for a visual feast. We braved the tipi the first night and then retreated to a local B&B the second day.
Now we were really getting into the holiday mood so we checked into Summer Lodge in Evershot where we spent most of the days in the spa.

Jacquetta hops back to New York

I flew to New York again on Monday. Was greeted by my favourite (living) dog in the world, Niko Tollemache, c/o Lyonel Tollemache, when I arrived at his place in Soho.

So I jumped in a cab to photography heaven - B & H Photo store and bought myself a present - the Canon G10 camera (much cheaper there than here). Wondered into Chelsea after that and popped into a couple of galleries before stopping by Ashley's...
Ashley Javier, hair stylist extraordinaire, has a beautiful penthouse apartment with a roof garden in midtown Manhattan. When I was living in New York, many a Sunday afternoon or evening would be whiled away up there by Ashley and I putting the world to rights, so that we did, with the help of his dog Tenny, for four hours on Tuesday evening.

Ashley has a gift for delivering brilliant lines that roll off his tongue in a brilliant southern drawl as if he were in a movie.
When our Chinese delivery arrived fifteen minutes after we'd ordered it, I told him that one of the things I do miss about New York is the service... Now - Ashley LOVES his city...

Jacquetta Wheeler injures her BMW

I had to take my car to hospital this week. I was too embarrassed to take a picture, so there isn't one, but I managed severely scrape one side of poor Nancy by reversing her diagonally into a pillar in the underground car park of my dad's flat in Mayfair. I blame Delta for my lack of sleep the night before, and not the fact that this is my first car that everyone warned me was probably a little too nice to be so!
She got literally wedged into the damn thing, so much so that I couldn't move forwards or backwards without scraping more and more paint off. I was meant to be taking my sister to the airport, but as I couldn't move she had to run off and get a taxi instead, leaving me alone in the underground car park feeling like a complete prat.
I told the man at the BMW garage that my sister had done it! Just couldn't bear the humiliation of him realising his preconceptions of tall blonde models might have some truth to them.
Anyway, Nancy's back on Saturday - I just hope my insurance company doesn't read this - they already charge me an extortionate amount of money, partly because I am considered "high profile" and apparently that means I hang out with footballers, whom if I was driving around and crashed, the insurers would have to cover the 'loss of inco...

Jacquetta's airmare from New York to London

I've thought up a new word - AIRMARE. I've had many in my years of whizzing around the globe, and can't believe someone hasn't coined the word already - perhaps they have - but anyway this one was unique: I got downgraded!
Delta Airlines overbooked the business class cabin and I got shunted to the back of the plane - outrageous! Believe me - I am a happy camper; I have traveled through South East Asia extensively and stayed in huts with no bathrooms and have graced many a 12 hour bus ride with no AC.
But when I have PAID for business, and get economy - well that riles me! I demanded I be put on another airline in business, and after half an hour of furious negotiation they found me a seat in Virgin Upper. I got to the gate only to be told they couldn't let me on the flight because they didn't have a meal for me!
"I've eaten! I don't need a meal" I cried, "I know I don't look like it but I promise I've just had a hamburger and chips and a glass of red wine and all I want is to be able to lie down and get a good nights sleep! Pleeeeeeeeeeeeese! This is riDICulous!!"
The blank faced man in charge just glared back at me and repeated the same line over and over again.. "I'm sorry maam, this is Virgin's policy - no meal - no seat..."
God it made me ...

Jacquetta goes back to New York

I was back in NYC last week for a two-day shoot. Lyonel, my ex-"roomy", good friend, and beloved party companion, organized a fun night out. Ten of us ate at an old favourite restaurant of mine, an Italian called Macceleria, and then we checked out NYC's newest hottest club, the Jane Hotel Bar.
The rooms in the Jane hotel are all like luxury train cabins, and cost only $80 a night. I think it's a genius idea. It means that once again young artists and travellers can stay somewhere that's trendy without it costing a fortune.
The bar was amazing... hordes of über-keen new Yorkers overflowed onto the road outside as everyone tried their hardest to get past the doorman and enter into the beautiful high ceilinged, colonial style, titanic-esque warm and fruitful interior.

Inside, I looked around at the beautiful people; all the handsome men and the models and the rich bankers and the celebrities and the film producers - all there to see and be seen, to schmooze and network and make things happen - and I realized that, although great to visit, I have left that life behind me, and am quite ok about it! Bring me a pint and some oysters and my Notting Hill pals at the Cow any day of the week!
I am loving London, and very glad I made the decision to move bac...

Jacquetta goes to Glastonbury

I am LOVING the English summer! OK - it is pouring with rain outside as I write this and has been dodgy for the past week or so, but even if we've seen the best of it, we've had a pretty good deal this year I reckon. Do you know it rained every day in NY in June apart from four?! And we've been blessed with many, many sunny weekends, for which I for one am very grateful.

Glastonbury was a lot of fun. It is always my favourite weekend of the year. It was a long journey to get there from the Catskills where I was shooting the previous week. A five hour car ride to JFK, a six hour overnight flight with a three hour delay, the Paddington express into London, the quickest change, unpack, re-pack I've ever done, and then a four-hour car journey in Nancy, my beloved BMW convertible, roof down the whole way.

I arrived triumphantly for 4pm on the Saturday afternoon, just in time to see Jamie Cullum perform in the Jazz field - a blissful start to my Glasto 2009, many more magical performances followed, as did a lot of cider, too many cigarettes, and dancing till dawn both nights I was there.

Jacquetta's summer travels

In January I passed my driving test (sixth time lucky!) and celebrated by setting off the very next day to go on a road trip through Ecuador with my elder sister, Sarah.

We had a blast. We didn't plan a thing, and had no idea where we'd be staying each night. We wound our way through the enchanting Andes and up the coastline and both fell in love with the country for three weeks.
Back in London in February, I decided I should perhaps knuckle down to some real work again, and focused fully on the modelling. Bingo - I landed the Gucci campaign, shot in April, and lots of other work has followed since (thank you shining star).
So the last few months have been quite a whirlwind of fashion shoots. In May I think I was one of the first people to get swine flu. I was in Singapore for a two-day job when I came down with severe exhaustion, a terrible cough and bad headaches.
Job done, I flew back to London, arrived in the morning and went straight to see my doctor. She didn't test me for the disease - she's one of those proper old school "buck up" kind of doctors...
"Even if you do have it the test results won't be back for two weeks and by that time you'll be better anyway - do call me from Iceland though if you feel any worse - you might have pneumo...

Jacquetta Wheeler moves back to London

Dear VOGUE.COM readers,
Just to bring you up to date:
I moved back to London a year ago. It wasn't an easy decision. I'd lived in New York for seven years and had built quite a wonderful life there, but, the truth is, London has and always will be home - and I was missing it, my family and my friends, quite a bit.
It took me a few months to find my feet. I redecorated my flat and started to rebuild my relationships with clients in the fashion industry, a few of whom had gone astray due to the previous year I'd taken off to travel.
In October I went to work on the Obama campaign in Pensylvannia for three weeks in the run up to the election. I'd long before fallen in love with Obama and his ideals, so off I went, stayed in a little town called Bloomsburg, and worked 17 hour days, most days.

It was extremely hard work, but also the most interesting and rewarding thing I've ever done in my life.

This is the Twenty8Twelve hotline coming to you live from Ripongi Tokyo!!

It's been a crazy day. I landed at 9.30 and headed straight in to town with my old school friend Yumiko.

We cruised around checking out all the places where Twenty8Twelve is stocked - which was amazing!

Also saw some very inspiring young Japanese designer stores and I bought an awesome parka multi-fastened coat from Qojelly. Other designers worth keeping an eye out for were The Dress Co who worked wonders on old vintage linen and LAFORE'Hideakisakaguchi'.

Junya Watanabe is everywhere and I wanted it all...The Comme des Garcons shop was the highlight of the day because all the shop staff looked so incredible. It is worth a visit just to see what they are wearing - of course it is all Comme which helps.

After taking in the sights we headed back to the hotel and prepared for the awesome explosive night out that was Sienna's GI Joe world premiere.

It was something else with Paramount pulling out all the stops for a firework photocall.

My favourite part was the drive to the cinema. A few precious moments with my sis before she heads off again on the tour.

We saw a rainbow over the famous Rainbow Bridge and watched the sun setting over Tokyo...

The Coolest Person I Know...

Lara Bohinc sees Coco Avant Chanel

I saw a preview of the Chanel movie a couple of weeks ago, as a guest of the lovely Celia Walden, and - surprise, surprise - the screening room was full of women!
It is a film about her life before she became a famous fashion designer, when she was a cabaret singer and a sort of "courtesan". What was really fantastic about it was the way they shot moments that influenced her greatly as a designer: the simplicity of black and white nuns' outfits in the orphanage where she grew up, the stripy Breton shirts from the trip with her lover to the seaside, the riding suits that she stole from her sugar daddy...all that became the basis of a classic Chanel look.

She was revolutionary and a bit of an anarchist. She wanted women to be free from the restraints of corsets, stripped bare from the prevalent abundance of frills and feathers and she found elegance in a sporty type of clothing. Dressed "comme le garcon" she was an unusual sight. In retrospective it seems strange that the label Chanel became the domain of bourgeois French women who are such a contrast to who she was in those early days.
She was portrayed on the sweet and innocent side but it was impossible to hide that she was a mix of contradictions. On one hand she lived from her lovers' fortunes, one of...

Lara Bohinc's fraud saga continues

I was hoping that by the time I wrote this blog the fraudster would be caught, but sadly I have no good news yet.
A jewellery shop from Marylebone, Cox and Power, called us last week asking about the name of the fraudster. Apparently a customer tried to purchase £10k worth of jewellery with a bank transfer. Because they read my blog, they were cautious and called their bank asking whether it was a cheque or bank transfer.
It turned out that the guy used a cheque in the same name, Mr Van de Burgh; obviously not his real name, the name on the chequebook that was probably stolen from some poor guy. They called the police but by the time they could catch him he got suspicious and never turned up to collect the goods.
Ec One from Exmouth read my blog too. They called us because the same man came in asking to buy their most expensive pieces. Apparently he got really frustrated and hung up the phone when they didn't want to release the pieces after he claimed that he made a bank transfer.
I read on Benchpeg, the industry's paper, that the same man tried to do the same scam at Dinny Hall on Westbourne Grove too.
And the police did finally turn up at our shop two weeks later to take a statement. They told us that our fraudster is one of the two wanted...

Virginia attends the Somerset House party

Somerset House - the spectacular neo-classical building - is to be the residency for London Fashion Week in September and for the next month Esquire has invited eighteen leading fashion designers to work with an artist and create a one-off man's suit.

The exhibition Esquire's Singular Suit included: a corduroy suit printed with graphics from Paul Smith and the artist Richard Woods; a suit made from oil-painted canvas that Louis Vuitton and Christian Schoeler had created (extraordinary); and the dinner suit accessorised with a huge netted ruff from John Galliano with a twenty-foot collage from Zanna - amazing.

It felt like the last party of the Summer Season as all anyone could talk about was the weather and getting away from it.

Topshop crochet topTopman Trousers (originally boyfriends but he didn't want them)!Morgan scarf I think..This was another terribly casual outfit on a summers day, we have such violent changing seasons in England it begs to be suitably dressed! In summer I just find it hard to wear black winter style clothing and it all literally gets shelved until Autumn. This is because by the time it starts warming up (April) here I'm sick of all my tights until next time! Then in September I'm usually sick of all my summer florals once again!I need a remote for my camera so I can do some ultimately posed shots of what I'm wearing! Obviously I get Chris to take my pictures and he is brilliant but I think I'd like to try a sort of portfolio styling almost like Polaroids. I'll get onto this!Otherwise I was asked what my job was and it's a long story.. I work for my family and for myself, we run a building/interior design company which has two sides one glamorous and one not so! I have also just launched my own website which sells lingerie amongst...

10 Things To Look For When Hiring A Fashion Designer

BRANDED DESIGNERS - Creative Marketing Techniques For Designers | Styleapple.comFashion Illustration by Camille WilkinsonI know as a design professional, finding the right designer to do a specific job can be time consuming and somewhat difficult, much less trying to find one when you're outside the design industry and not familiar with design at all. I've created the "Hire A Designer" series to help clients find the right designer by giving them some valuable tips on what to look for when hiring for their next big project. I will be selecting design professionals from within the

Choose One! Your Design Firm's Financial Needs Or Brand Promise.

BRANDED DESIGNERS - Creative Marketing Techniques For Designers | Styleapple.comSometimes a new freelance designer will find himself in an awkward position when managing finances. If you're working on a tight budget, which is normally the case with designers starting out in freelancing, the tendency is to seek work anywhere and everywhere, just to keep your business afloat. In the beginning stages do your best to stay on the path you've outlined for your freelance business. Refer to your business plan, esp. your marketing and branding plans to guide you. I know as Styleapple grows we are faced with deciding who to partner and work with in order to maintain a consistency in our brand promise. As your business grows, be aware of the projects and companies your brand is associated with. Just because their paying you doesn't mean it's the right gig for you. If the job doesn't align with your personal brand or the brand promise of your design firm, I would probably not recommend you take the job. Of...

Changes to Add New HH + Address Cleansing is back!

We pulled the address cleansing feature a few months ago to make it more robust; the dev team really knocked it out of the park!  In the video below I walk through one scenario just to give you an idea of what is coming, but in a nutshell the process has become very conversational and works through the many different scenarios that could apply when an address is incomplete.  In addition, we have made some nice changes to the Add New Household function in an effort to improve your experience.  As always, please let us know if we hit the mark or failed by commenting below.  Thanks again!

Hello Again

Diesel PlaysuitAll Saints JumperLa Senza GarterOffice ShoesMakeup: Nothing apart from smudged khol eyeliner I have been seriously swooning over the new Topshop collection, especially Horror Girls. This collection is inspired by Japanese girls I believe and it's amazing: see here. This outfit was inspired by the collection, which features multiple textures and some very risque items i.e. stockings. Opinions on stockings please? I think depending on who wears them they can look sophisticated or tacky. I also feel the venue is important to consider. You wouldn't wear them off to the cinema on seeing Harry Potter lolI feel sad that I haven't posted for so long, I just haven't been dressing up at all. Even weekends have been spent dog walking, cleaning, working. No excitement in my life apart from the Topshop collection ;) and to be honest it seems I just haven't been going out?! A lot of personal life shifting has been tak...

I'm a hard working girl in business but with the recession it doesn't really offer a full time job. I hope to immigrate to Canada in 10 years and to me a good career is necessary. I've decided to study Midwifery and I start college in September. All very new and scary. I also need to pass my driving test which I got onto doing today. I have to re pass my theory test after it expired! I need to make a "to do" list in honesty. This outfit was for the cinema to see Harry Potter (very casual).I enjoyed the fact there wasn't a huge climax with lots of fighting at the end. It was almost eerie throughout the film. I was always scared of Bellatrix Lestrange in the book but Helena Bonham carter made her so eccentric and crazy! I loved her! I think I felt the same sense as her character on Sweeney Todd. Brilliant woman! I do separate the books and the films though, there is a lot "cut" out of the films so it ...

Bryan Adams photography exhibition

Bryan Adams, rock star and renowned photographer, launched his Hear the World exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery.

Featuring 21 portraits of musicians cupping their ears, proceeds from the sales will go to the foundation which improves the quality of life for people with hearing loss.

The gallery was packed with guests admiring the amazing pictures - it looked as though it was going to be a sell out. Well done Bryan for raising awareness for such a worthwhile cause.

Virginia Bates at the Serpentine

My lovely friend Camilla Morton took me to Hospital for a screening of Coco Before Chanel (there was a moment of panic on the cab driver's face when we gave him the address). The film is a must for fashionistas; it is lavish, sumptuous and very moving. Audrey Tautou as young Chanel is brilliant. After couture what could be more perfect?

Met my partner in crime, Judith Watt, in the car park. We finished dressing up - as it's impossible to drive in sequins and tulle; far too fragile. My dress had survived the Thirties, the least I can do is show it a little respect. It could get chilly later so dived into the back of the car and found a lace underskirt and coat. All layered up and ready to party we marched to the Gallery.

The Summer Party at the Serpentine is one of the great parties of the London season. Sponsored by Canvas TV, a new global television channel for the arts to be launched in 2010, this year the Pavilion is designed by the Japanese architect Kazuyo Sejima and Rye Nishizawa of Sanaa. It was not just perfect for the party but a vision in architecture; its reflective aluminium canopy, sitting on tall pillars, winding it's way through the trees (some with tiny purple bulbs) in an ethereal way, embracing the lights. Apparently when it rains i...

Front Row At Dior Couture

A day trip to the Grand Salon of Dior in Paris for Haute Couture can't be bad. A long silk gown, bit impractical for Eurostar until I managed to roll it under a ribbon pulled from my heels bag. Lunch at L'Avenue and a chance to watch the limos pulling up at Dior, then across the road for the show.

Inspired by the photographs of Christian Dior with his favourite mannequins, the models glided from room to room in creations bought back to life by John Galliano with his usual magical flair and twist. Burnt orange, fuchsia pink, yellow and green sculptured creations worked with Fifties roll-ons, bras, suspenders and stockings. The shoes amazing with straps of suspenders, elegant hats by Stephen Jones and with Pat McGrath's flawless make-up. J'Adore!

Perfect Pop

Two pop legends, Brian Wilson and Peter Blake, hosted an evening at a private members club to launch That Lucky Old Sun; a collaboration of their art and music presented in a beautiful handcrafted box. Peter Blake's prints, quirky and fun as ever, were on display - my favourite; Mexican Girl.
Brian Wilson played a set, opening with California Girls and closing with Surfin' USA. The audience went mad. How appropriate when London is sizzling, we could have been on Venice Beach. I felt privileged to have been part of such an historic evening.

Virginia visits the Jeff Koons exhibition

A beautiful balmy evening was perfect to wander through Kensington Gardens to the Serpentine gallery for the opening of Jeff Koons' Popeye Series. It's his first major exhibition here and the queue to get in was massive.
Once in, with a much needed glass of wine in hand, spent another half an hour queuing to get into the gallery itself; the air-conditioned space a welcome relief.

Popeye was conceived during the Great Depression in 1929 so it's a fitting time to rediscover and explore him. Paintings and sculptures with surreal combinations of everyday objects and cartoon imagery - the exhibition is a delight.
Two hours later, when I left, people were still queuing to get in.

Virginia goes to John Galliano in Paris

Arrived in Paris as the city woke up to the devastating news that Michael Jackson, the musical genius, had died. His music was everywhere blasting from shops, cars, cafés and in the Tuileries gardens groups of kids were moon-walking.

The invitation to John Galliano Homme was a series of beautiful postcards and the show predictably was miles away, but no one cares because it's part of the adventure. This time it was held at an abandoned pre-war swimming baths completely covered with graffiti - the runway the length of the empty pool.
The models stomped down a metal staircase in fabulous creations, Napoleon meets Laurence of Arabia meets Wilhelm von Gloeden. Flowing shirts slung around the hips, layers of belts, military silhouettes and a chiffon evening coat with jet-black embroidery - all to die for.

Spent Saturday doing the usual rounds Merci, Colette, lunch at Costes and couldn't resist going into their newly opened florist; the prettie...

Emily Zak chooses handshakes over kisses

With every sneeze a worry, and the face mask an unlikely fashion accessory for autumn winter, I am suddenly desperate for ways to move away from the fashion industry's double kiss, toward an air kiss or better yet, a firm hand shake.
During Fashion Weeks, both bonding and business meeting are sealed with a kiss. With the double kiss in Europe, single kiss in New York, and big hug in California all up for debate, we may have to issue an edict or make an announcement to avoid hurt feelings.
Instead of iPod carrier pockets, maybe fashion's best and brightest should think more about hand wash pockets, prints for faced masks, and bringing back gloves.
While I certainly don't make light of a swine flu, maybe it is a good time to sacrifice etiquette in favour of playing it safe. It will be interesting to see how the fashion world reacts on the runway - and in the front row!

Vogue's Emily Zak falls in love with a scarf

Working in fashion makes you harder to please. My husband complains every birthday, and it's even more obvious then when buying something for myself. When you know what will be in store six months before it arrives, it takes a lot to move or surprise.

This, and a genetic tendency for pickiness, means that when I find something I like I swear loyalty. I buy trousers from one brand and T-shirts from another. I approach a new purchase like a budding romance. What gets my attention is when something is unique or jewel like, whether it is a pair of shoes, underwear, or stationery.

But maybe you don't need to be hugely picky or well informed to know a beautiful thing when you see it. Every time I wear my navy blue silk Vassilisa scarf, people want to know what...where...how.

There is something universally feminine about scarves. Like hats or gloves, once necessary - they are still a new idea for people under 60. They can be worn to cover the head, keep you warm, or cover you up.

You don't need to know anything about Central Saint Martin's designer Nadja Solovieva to love her Russian inspired prints, but breakfast with her at Claridge's has me convinced. Artist and designer, her sketches are on show until...

Go Greece

While it has felt more like Ibiza than cool Britania in London recently, there is something about the complete escape of a few weeks on the Greek Islands that gives you a solid dose of sunshine and sea. It feels more like visiting a different world. Three hours flight from London, and I am exchanging Blackberry for sunscreen and a book - the pace of life a relaxed crawl between lunch and dinner with maybe a nap in between.
And while Greece is not known for its efficiency when it comes to flights and hotel bookings, we fly direct to the island of Paros from Athens, and our hotel is divine. And after all, who cares about efficiency when you have Greek masterpieces like the Parthenon, plenty of baklava and Greek yogurt.
If you visit Paros, be sure to visit the small island a short boat ride away called Antiparos for beautiful untouched beaches. While you are there, visit the local restaurant and sip their famous ouzo while watching the sunset.
In downtown Naoussa, eat seafood pasta at Marios' restaurant. Visit the great jewellery shops for beautiful Byzantine gold filigree, and of course evil eyes. We set out to try every flavour of gellato, and went to most of the cafes and bars in downtown Naoussa in search of the best moonlight view. The winner was a bar ...
